There have been evidences found that government plans related to health issues are far more effective than those offered by health trusts. A report has concluded that the services provided by National Health Service are weak as compared to GPs.
As per this report, there will be a fall in the one year performance of NHS, on account of the success of Government Plans.
GPs are thought to be universally better than primary care trusts, which are argued for their uneconomic services, as stated by Civitas. It is a setback to NHS.
Next week, Health Secretary Andrew Lansley will pen down his plan in a White Paper, in which it is expected that 80% of the NHS budget -- around £80 billion -- will be handed over to the family doctors. As for now, PCTs are charging the patient for services offered by NHS and controls most of its budget. GPs are believed to understand patient needs and make them choose the best option in monetary terms.
With the people sticking to GPs, the role of health authorities and PCTs will be badly hit.
Lansley suggested that GPs must charge its services in case of out-of-hours care, as PCTs exaggerated the same after it came under their control.
A similar plan in 1990s of GP fund holding improved speed, reduced waiting times and widened the range of available services. But at that time, it failed to cut the costs and annoyed patients, as per Civitas' latest report.
