Effluent Compliance Improvement by Farmers in Canterbury

Effluent Compliance Improvement by Farmers in CanterburyThe dairy industry has to concentrate more on enhancing efficient consent compliance in Canterbury; and recently, it has been seen that its focus is commencing to pay off.

Statistics by Environment Canterbury have revealed that the earlier figures have shown the pace of significant non-compliance to be lowered to 8% from last season’s 19%.

Frank Peters, Spokesman for Federated Farmers, said that he is delighted that farmers have taken it all on board, but he has also warned about the misfortunes that happen every time. He said that even 8% is still not a good result, and that the farmers must show more improvement.

He also added that more awareness will be raised in the coming season, so that the conditions get even better. Agriculture Minister, David Carter praised the dairy farmers of Canterbury, as they have begun with the cleaning process, and he has insisted that this must continue consistently, even further.

Carter said, “It is great to see improvement, and I am particularly pleased at the big fall in significant non-compliance rates. The challenge now is for this trend to continue and every dairy farmer must play a part – no excuse”.
