According to the Friday-released Fortune list of the ‘50 smartest people’ in the field of technology, the Apple CEO Steve Jobs bagged the top slot; with the runners up in the ‘smartest CEO’ category being Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos and Demand Media CEO Richard Rosenblatt.
Steve Jobs’ top-most ranking on the Fortune list stems from the fact that he introduced devices like iMac and iPod, in the late 1990s, to bring Apple back virtually from the brink of disaster. Later, Jobs also practically transformed the mobile industry with the release of the highly popular iPhone and, of late, the game-changing iPad.
Noting that “Jobs is a pop culture icon like no other business executive,” Fortune said: “He is a visionary, a micromanager, and a showman who creates such anticipation around new products that their releases are veritable holidays.”
Meanwhile, the top spot in the ‘smartest designer’ category was bagged by the iPhone-creator Jonathan Ive, the lead designer at Apple. Ive was also named Designer of the Year by London’s Design Museum in 2003.
The top 50 smartest list from Fortune also includes several categories like analysts, engineers, academics, hybrids, investors, founders, executives, and scientists. Among the other influential persons featuring on the list are: Google's Sergey Brin and Larry Page; Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg; Farmville CTO Luke Rajlich; Twitter's Jack Dorsey; and Netscape’s Marc Andreessen.
