That US carriers are vying to launch their respective Samsung Galaxy S variant ahead of the competitors became evident recently, when T-Mobile confirmed that it was moving up the launch of its Vibrant by six days – from July 21 to July 15 -, so as to launch the handset ahead of AT&T’s Captivate which is scheduled to hit the markets on July 18.
With the Galaxy S being essentially a GSM handset, the GSM carriers will get their Galaxy S variants before the other carriers – two more Galaxy S models, Verizon’s Fascinate and Sprint’s Epic 4G, will be released later.
Samsung is banking heavily on its Galaxy S line to give the company a much desired boost in the intensifying Android Market – more so because the Galaxy S line has already bagged a spot in CRN’s list of ‘The 10 Coolest Smartphones of the Year (So Far).’
Some of the common features of all of the Galaxy S models include - a 4-inch Super AMOLED screen; Android 2.1 OS; a 1GHz Samsung Hummingbird processor; and Bluetooth 3.0.
While both Vibrant and Captivate have been priced at $199, with their respective carrier’s two-year contract; Fascinate and Epic 4G will also probably be similarly close in cost, though the price of the Epic 4G, featuring a slide-out keyboard, might be a wee bit higher.
