With the Blackberry Desktop Manager software’s current lack of support for Microsoft Outlook 2010 apparently being a less than ideal situation for enterprises as well as individuals using Outlook 2010, the handset’s maker, Research In Motion (RIM) has said it is working on a fix to enable the capability.
Since the BlackBerry Desktop Manager does not support Outlook 2010, most of the corporate users of the BlackBerry handsets are not able to sync e-mail, contacts, calendar, tasks, etc. between their smartphones and Outlook
2010 via the application.
Elaborating that a solution is in the offing, RIM recently said that initially a Desktop Manager update with support for Outlook 32-bit will be released, most probably in August. Though RIM has refrained from giving any timeline for Desktop Manager’s support for Outlook 64-bit, the company has only said that the capability can be expected “in 2011.”
A RIM BlackBerry Technical Solution Center post further elucidated all the details, about the lack of the capability and the timeframe for a fix, as follows: “Currently, BlackBerry Desktop Manager 5.0.1 does not support Microsoft Outlook 2010 64-bit version for mailbox connectivity and synchronization of organizer data such as Calendar, Contacts, Tasks, and Memos.”
The post further added: “The next release of BlackBerry Desktop Manager provides support for Microsoft Outlook 2010 32-bit version only. This release is targeted for August 2010. Support for Microsoft Outlook 2010 64-bit version will be available in 2011.”
