Obama to Unveil Strategy to Cut HIV Infections

Obama to Unveil Strategy to Cut HIV InfectionsThis week, President Obama is going to unveil a new national strategy that will aim to control the AIDS scourge by reducing the cases of new infections and also, to ensure that more people receive the care and treatment for this epidemic.

A final report by the New York Times has presented that the deaths caused by AIDS in a year have decreased, but the figure of patients living with the disease is soaring. The report has also revealed that the case of new infections has been stationary.

The administration has said that the HIV infections should be reduced by 25% in the next five years.

"Approximately 56,000 people become infected each year, and more than 1.1 million Americans are living with HIV", says the report.

Mr. Obama will declare this strategy on Tuesday; this strategy is the outcome of discussions with thousands of people across the country.

The report does not demand for a large portion of spending by Federal Government. It is suggested that the Government needs to spend the money in the areas, which require more attention and is facing more risk.

At present, the Government spends over $19 billion in a year on domestic AIDS programs.
