There will be a meeting of medical professionals on Tuesday to discuss the fate of the diabetes drug Avandia.
There is a doubt on whether the medicine raises the chances of heart attack. According to the maker of the drug, GlaxoSmithKline PLC, there is no such effect of the medicine. The Company has highlighted a major study that supports its claim.
Fresh scrutiny of the drug has been conducted by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of America and it has found out that the results of the study are not correct. FDA has criticized the drug which was once registered huge sales as it was used for the treatment of Type 2 diabetes.
Many experts and some of the researchers of FDA have blamed the drug division of the agency for asking for a lot of evidence before taking it away from the market. FDA Commissioner, Dr. Kessler revealed that the same division will play an important role in the decision, which will be taken on Tuesday.
Dr. Kessler revealed that it will be a very crucial moment for the Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner of FDA.
The pharmaceutical Companies are now apprehensive that the outcomes will hold back the sanctions for new drugs.
