According to a recent study, losing weight has now become easy. The study was conducted by the Medical Research Council.
The study was led by Dr. Susan Jebb. She is of the view that GPs should recommend weight-loss schemes to overweight patients rather than offering NHS help as they will get a better outcome.
Researchers discovered that people who participated in a WeightWatchers programme lost two times more weight as compared to those with GP care.
The study was partly funded by WeightWatchers. Dr. Jebb highlighted that such schemes could be very beneficial in weight loss.
According to the National Obesity Forum, purchasing services would be beneficial to the patients. Pilot schemes have been organized by NHS in assistance with WeightWatchers. Dr. Susan Jebb focused on one of these programmes. She also studied similar projects being organized in Germany and Australia.
As many as 772 overweight patients were referred by the GPs of Northampton to WeightWatchers meetings, which took place once a week.
About 50% of the other patients got GP-led care. It included things like distributing pamphlets regarding healthy diet and planned appointments with nurses for checking weight and seeking advice.
The weight of the patients was measured at regular intervals all through the year in order to witness the results.
