Treasury Attempted to Cut Extra Funds for Health Sector

Treasury Attempted to Cut Extra Funds for Health SectorThe papers released last week have shown arguments between the Treasury and Health officials. Radio New Zealand's Health Correspondent has said that the health sector is used to receive the fund increment of $750 million every year.

In the May Budget of 2010, this amount was deducted to a rise of $420 million, with one-off items having the total operating rise for the coming year to $512 million.

On the other hand the treasury had decided to cut the increase to nearly $300 million. It has complained about the improper details from Health Ministry officials about the available saving options. This was more prominent in the disability support area.

The Treausry also gave its views for not making any increase in the capital for health, but of no use. It could also not get success in its argument, which said that primary healthcare savings should not be reinvested for other health programmes.

However, Health Minister, Tony Ryall has said that the way budget has been allocated, is an achievement in itself. He said that the budget is perfect for the present situation and it shows that Prime Minister John Key and Bill English, the Finance Minister are really keen to protect public health.
