ACC has reportedly admitted that it will hire more staff in a bid to balance with the levy variations. The most ironic fact that emerged following the announcement is that the Company had sacked nearly 70 of its employees, the previous year.
Also, Chief Executive Jan White gave a formal confirmation that ACC seeks new staff in initial stages and is likely to hire contractors as well.
The Council of Trade Unions President outlined that the step undertaken by the firm would assist in offering incentives for accidents to be covered up.
The Company yesterday announced to witness its workplaces adorned with good safety records, lowering levies. It insisted that workplaces reporting a boosted rate of accidents, will have to bear the bad consequences as they are rendered at a risk.
The changes announced are aimed to facilitate a high level of transparency and robust safety in the workplace, posited ACC Minister Nick Smith, adding, "This announcement needs to be seen in the context of New Zealand killing over 50 people a year in the workplace, or one a week".
With effect from April, 2011, businesses paying $10,000 plus every year in ACC levies would be offered a discount, or face a penalty, of over 50% depending on their claims for the last three years.
