Going by the statistics brought forth in the smartphone arena, Google’s Android devices are probably outselling the Apple iPhone!
Apple CEO Steve Jobs Friday revealed that his company had sold 3 million units of the iPhone 4 in 22 days; while Google has revealed that at least 160,000 Android handsets are being activated every day – the number when multiplied by 22 (days) results in 3.5 million Android devices sold.
However, it cannot be said for sure that Android devices have taken over the iPhone, largely because of a multitude of other data involved, like- the number of earlier-generation iPhone 3GS models being sold - and the fact that the iPhone 4 is currently available only in Apple’s biggest seven markets.
In addition, Apple seemingly may be bogged down by some pent up demand for the iPhone 4 – with the statistics indicating that the company sold nearly 1.7 million units of the handset in the first few days in the US; and just around an additional 1.3 million in the subsequent almost 19 days, including its big launches in UK, Germany, France, and Japan.
As such, ever since Apple’s quarter began 19 days back, the company has been able to sell only about 70,000 units of the newly-released iPhone 4 per day – the figures being even less than 50 percent of the reported ‘per day’ activation rate of the Google Android handsets!
