Close on the heels of its last-month announcement of the Apple iPhone 4, AT&T recently launched one of the most attractive Android handsets thus far to have hit the markets – the Samsung Captivate, the AT&T version of the much-raved-about Samsung ‘Galaxy S’ platform.
The key features of the Samsung Captivate – which has come within a few days of the Verizon Galaxy S version, Vibrant – include a 4-inch, Super AMOLED touch screen; a 1-GHz Samsung Hummingbird processor; and a 5-megapixel camera; GPS; and 16GB internal storage expandable up to 32GB with SD Cards.
Similar to the Verizon Vibrant, as well as the forthcoming Galaxy S versions on Sprint and T-Mobile, the software of the AT&T Captivate is a noteworthy blend of Android 2.1; Samsung's TouchWiz add-ons; as well as AT&T's picks.
The AT&T Captivate, and also its other Galaxy S counterparts, is apparently one of the fastest gaming Android handsets to have hot the markets, with a benchmarking video from Android and Me demonstrating the capabilities of the PowerVR SGX540 – that is two-fold more than the speed of the current generation PowerVR SGX530 GPU of high-end Android handsets and the SGX 535 of the iPhone’s A4.
In addition, the Captivate also happens to be the first Android handset to boast a six-axis accelerometer that offers the users a much enhanced gaming experience.
