Apple releases two new updates - iTunes 9.2.1 and iBook 1.1.1

Apple releases two new updates - iTunes 9.2.1 and iBook 1.1.1In an attempt to squash some ‘performance and stability’ bugs, Apple released a minor iTunes 9.2.1 update on Monday, for fixing bugs as well as addressing security issues. In addition, the company also updated its iBooks application for iOS, with version 1.1.1 bringing enhanced performance.

The free new update for iTunes 9.2 is available via Software Update or from Apple’s support Website; and essentially fixes the slow first-time sync problem faced by some of the Apple devices. Furthermore, the update also fixes problems with drag and drop; and addresses an issue that crops up with the encrypted backups when the iPhone and the iPod Touch models are upgraded to iOS 4.

Though one of the most notable changes that the update 9.2.1 brings to iTunes is that it disables “older versions of some incompatible third-party plug-ins,” Apple is yet to disclose the details about the plug-ins that are incompatible with the new update.

The iTunes 9.2.1 - which also addresses a security issue on Windows, listed as CVE-2010-1777 – can be run on Mac OS X 10.4.11 or later, just like iTunes 9.2.

Meanwhile, the iBooks 1.1.1 update for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad includes some fixes like - double tapping of an image within a book for a more detailed view; books including audio and video; substantial performance improvements when reading PDFs; look-up definitions to English words; and the addressing of an issue that can sometimes hamper the download of some books.
