Blogetery shut down: Unconvincing explanations?

Unconvincing explanations?According to a Monday statement by Web hosting company BurstNET Technologies, which last week suspended its service to Blogetery.com, the blogging platform was cut off by the company after federal authorities said they had found al-Qaida “terrorist material” one of Blogetery’s servers.

The statement issued by the BurstNET officials said: “On the evening of July 9, 2010, BurstNET received a notice of a critical nature from law enforcement officials, and was asked to provide information regarding ownership of the server hosting Blogetery.com. It was revealed that a link to terrorist material, including bomb-making instructions and an al-Qaeda 'hit list', had been posted to the site.”

Further noting that Blogetery - which claims to have hosted over 70,000 bloggers - was apparently violating BurstNET’s “Acceptable Use Policy,” the statement further added that the policy “strictly prohibits the posting of ‘terrorist propaganda, racist material, or bomb/weapon instructions’.”

However, despite the fact that BurstNET has cited Blogetery’s violation of the policy, along with its history of previous abuse, as the reasons behind the immediate cut off of service; several online commentors refuse to buy the BurstNET seemingly unconvincing explanation that some unnamed law enforcement agency pressed the company to shut down Blogetery.

In the opinion of most of the online commentors, the Blogetery shutdown was apparently part of a government attempt to suppress free speech and control the Internet.
