The month of June was favorable for the tourism industry in Australia, as it got an early winter boost by holding up visitor arrivals, in addition to assuring a strong ski season.
As per Statistics New Zealand, the overseas visitors arriving in Australia for short term, increased to the extent of 2.5 million for the first time. The figure for June month was the second-highest. The visitor arrivals from Australia in the month of June increased 7 percent from a year earlier to 76,200. The visitor arrivals from China, Japan and Korea were up 6900.
Tourism New Zealand Chief Executive, Kevin Bowler opined that the Asian markets are heading towards growth, which gave him confidence that New Zealand was getting back on the path of progress with all these international arrivals.
He said, "China, Japan and Korea are warming up and the outlook is slightly brighter, but we have yet to turn the corner to get back to the growth we were seeing a year ago across Asia and there remains some underlying weakness in the western markets".
Visitor arrivals from the United States were least in June since 1999 and the number of visitors from Britain was the lowest for the month of June, since 2000.
As a matter of fact, there were less visitor arrivals from Western markets including US, UK and Germany in the month of June, due to many reasons like political and economic uncertainty, costly airfares and shortages of airline seats.
