Microsoft to give free Windows phones to all its employees

MicrosoftIn what can be termed as an aggressive Windows Phone 7-related move by the Redmond, Washington-based Microsoft Corp., a recent Tech Flash report has revealed that Microsoft intends handing out a Windows Phone 7 handset to its employees.

As per Tech Flash, the announcement of the move came at a Wednesday morning sales event at Atlanta, where Microsoft disclosed that all its employees – which total up to nearly 90,000 worldwide – will be receiving handsets running Microsoft’s new mobile phone OS.

The move, which is not an unprecedented one in the industry – back in 2007, before the first-generation iPhone was released, Apple gave free iPhones to all full-time employees with over a year of service in the company -, is apparently a good one by Microsoft.

Not only will the move have all the Microsoft staff using the company’s own product, but will also help employees in the sales and public relations departments to promote the Windows Phone 7 platform to non-Microsoft public.

Apparently, one of the likely catalysts of the move announced by Microsoft is the fact that most of the company’s employees are currently using the Apple iPhone; and very few of them use Windows devices.

The news that they will get full-featured, real Windows Phone 7 handsets has been widely welcomed by the employees; even though Microsoft is yet to disclose which modesl will be available and which carriers the employees can select from.
