The BP workers present at the site of oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico are reported to prepare for their final attempts to leave as a storm nears.
However, the work on the relief well is still not suspended. The work basically aims to use it to permanently cover the leak.
The incident commander Adm. Thad Allen is reported to have called on for covering the damaged well till the evacuation work on the site is fully completed.
He outlined that the ships placed to keep a track on the sea bed, seeking signs of problems in the sea will be departed from the site at the end and the first one to return.
"The seismic survey vessels, the acoustic vessels and the vessels operating the ROVs [remote-operated vehicles] will stay as long as possible. And if conditions allow it, they will remain through the passage of the storm", quoted, Adm. Allen
The devastating storm has already inundated Haiti, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic; however, no news concerning the occurrence of any significant damage was reported as it crossed over Florida.
However, storm coast of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and southern Florida has been put on alert due to the storm.
