The Government has launched its new drafts for energy efficiency and conservation strategies. According to Energy Minister Gerry Brownlee, the strategies are restructured in order to make them in line with the new policy preferences by the Government. These new strategies will also aim for a better economy of the country.
There are three new strategic drafts known as New Zealand Energy Strategy and New Zealand Energy Efficiency and Conservation Strategy. New Zealand Energy strategy will set the guidelines for the energy sector, whereas, NZEECS would be focusing on the encouragement of energy efficiency and its conservation. The new strategies also focus on decreasing the greenhousegas emissions.
Mr. Brownless has said that through these strategies, the Government has planned to generate 90% of electricity with the help of renewable energy sources by 2025.
The Government aims to save the power by 55 times and in order to achieve that objective; it will encourage business houses and householders to save the electricity. However, the Government will ensure the proper supply of electricity.
According to the draft, public sector would be asked to cut its energy usage minimum by 10%.
On the other hand, Green Party co-leader Russel Norman has said that the restructured strategies indicate the high aspirations of the Government, but it lacks solid actions.
