It seems that Auckland International Airport was unsuccessful in convincing the worried Queenstown Lakes Councilors. Rivals, who do not support its investment in Queenstown Airport, are now deeming court proceedings against it.
According to the reports, five Queenstown Lakes Councilors had a meeting with AIA Chief Executive, Simon Moutter in Queenstown, yesterday. They expressed their fears over the 24.99% stake that AIA is taking in Queenstown Airport.
Cr. Gillian McLeod is not satisfied and feels that the deal is not in favor of the Queenstown community, even though, Moutter thinks to have sealed a good business contract.
She said, "I don't think we'll ever know the true value of the airport now".
Meanwhile, there were legal queries that were left unattended that whether the airports took the correct approach, or if it received a good amount. Cr. Cath Gilmour also shared similar thoughts.
She said that whether the deal stopped others from investing in the Queenstown Airport in the upcoming time was still uncertain.
In the past, Queenstown Airport was wholly owned by Queenstown Lakes District Council. But it received severe criticism from the public, together with a lot of major Companies, when it issued new shares to Auckland International Airport.
