In what will apparently be a major rearrangement of Apple’s Cinema display lineup, the company has decided to favor a new 27-inch medium Cinema display at the cost of the small as well as big Cinema displays - the 24-inch and the 30-inch models respectively.
In a recent announcement, Apple revealed that it intends discontinuing the 24-inch and 30-inch Cinema display models, and will rather go with only one model – the medium-sized 27-inch display with LED backlighting, with 16:9 aspect ratio – from September this year.
As a result of the move, Apple has announced a $100 reduction in the price of the present 24-inch LED Cinema Display, bringing its cost down to $799. The 24-inch model and the 30-inch model, the price of which remains unchanged, will both be available only till stocks last.
Meanwhile, boasting 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution, in place of the typical 1080p resolution, the 27-inch model will feature 60 percent more pixels that the departing 24-inch model; though it will be slightly lesser than its 30-inch counterpart which had 1600 pixels vertically.
The 16:9 aspect ration of the 27-inch Cinema Display – which will also make use of LED backlighting, just like the 24-inch model – will be ideal for widescreen movie watching.
In addition, the 27-inch model will also feature a few notable extras – including an iSight camera up top; three rear USB ports; and built-in stereo speakers.
