Late Stieg Larsson becomes the first platinum seller on Amazon’s Kindle

Stieg-LarssonIn a Tuesday announcement, online retail giant Amazon proudly revealed its first member of what the company calls its “Kindle Million Club” – the late author Stieg Larsson.

According to Amazon, Larsson, who died in 2004, and was well known for his ‘Millennium Trilogy’ mystery crime novels, has become the first platinum seller on the Kindle, with one million of his books sold for the Amazon e-reader.

As per Amazon, its “Kindle Million Club” honors authors whose complete range of work produces over one million sales of ‘paid’ books for the Amazon e-reader. The honor does not apply to the 1.8 million out-of-copyright books available for free through the Kindle Store.

Noting that Larsson had gone platinum in Amazon’s paid e-books arena, the company further disclosed that Larsson’s three books of his ‘Millennium Trilogy’ crime novels - including “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo”; “The Girl Who Played with Fire”; and “The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest” - are the top ten all-time best sellers for Kindle.

The announcement of the honor for Larsson is the second landmark, of late, for Amazon on the e-book front. Only last week the retailer had announced that the sales of its e-books are more than the sales of hardcover books. Amazon had also noted that Larsson and four other authors - Charlaine Harris, James Patterson, Stephenie Meyer, and Nora Roberts -- had all sold at least 500,000 Kindle books.
