Northern territory alcohol consumption more

Northern territory alcohol consumption moreIt has been stated by a recent research that people living in Northern territories consumed more alcohol as compared to other Australians. This consumption also puts them at a risk of dying before others.

The risk of their death due to more consumption of alcohol was about three and a half times more as compared to other Australians.

The research author, Steve Skov, says every year the alcohol consumption of Territorians was about 15 litres of pure alcohol.

He said, "For Aboriginal people the consumption is about 16 or 17 litres per person over the age of 15 on average, but for non-Aboriginal people it's about 14. So both of those are well in excess of the Australian rate of just over
10. Fifteen litres a year works out to just over a bottle of scotch per person per week.”

According to Dr Skov the data he has stated is from the year 2004 to 2006 but he added that not much change has been since then which is a cause of concern.
