Barney Frank introduced online poker regulation bill in US and as per one of its amendments, the online operators would have to take licenses to carry on this game, so that they move in accordance with the gaming law and with UIGEA, as well.
Another amendment of the bill put forward by Brad Sherman, a California Democrat barred the online poker operators from dealing with US habitants, who violate federal laws and come under the purview of UIGEA. As per this provision, candidates need to authenticate that their services are not against the provisions of the law.
But the structure and the provisions of the UIGEA are so complex, that online poker operators want the non-approval of this bill and said that it’s not a hurdle in their way.
The lawyers of PokerStars expressed that its client’s activities have always followed the legal standards and as such UIGEA’s legal norms are not clear in regards to the online gambling; so they don’t have a valid reason to worry, as it would not affect its candidacy for licensure.
The only aim of the bill is to make clear that gaming should be legal, but with the inclusion of UIGEA, the House Financial Services Committee has itself landed into a pool of queries and arguments over its complexity.
