Within weeks of the official June-end launch of the Apple iPhone 4, developer “comex et al,” that had earlier released a jailbreak for the iPad, has come up with a jailbreak for the newest iPhone; allowing savvy iPhone 4 users to look for apps and themes outside of the App Store!
The iPhone 4 jailbreak, dubbed ‘JailbreakMe 2.0’ is free as of now, though the Comex site is open to donations from the users. The new jailbreak, which benefits from a security vulnerability in Safari, is available via the mobile Safari browser.
Using the jailbreak procedure published by Comex, the users of the new iPhone 4 – like all other devices under iOS 4.0 and 4.0.1 – can install software outside of the Apple-approved arena; including software which is not offered on the iTunes store.
For the easy-to-implement jailbreak mechanism, iPhone 4 users need to go to YouTube on the handset browser and launch the procedure, which needs only a few minutes for completion, and does not require the rebooting the iPhone 4 device.
Once the ‘JailbreakMe’ procedure is completed, users are automatically offered the Cydia alternative, which allows them to install programs on their handsets.
However, iPhone users going in for the jailbreak need to keep in mind the fact that ‘JailbreakMe’ is not a risk-free procedure - some users have experiencing crashes; while other have had some problems, though repairable, on the MMS and FaceTime.
