To redevelop the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney, construction company Watpac Ltd has won a $53 million contract.
There will be a 50per cent increase in the size of the museum. Other things that will be added to the museum would be a National Centre for Creative Learning, new exhibition spaces for international work and Australian art which will be assigned one level.
Other attractions will be facilities for youngsters with particular needs, educational and workshop space, facilities for young people with specific needs, a lecture theater that will have 120-seat capacity, library and resource room, digital classroom, and multimedia room.
Watpac said that the project will be funded by the federal and NSW state governments and the City of Sydney. For the redevelopment a sum of $15 million was donated by philanthropist Simon Mordant and his family.
Whats more, jobs would be supported by the money being spent on the development, Federal Minister for Infrastructure Anthony Albanese said.
He added, "This is a community-based infrastructure project that will support employment and economic activity here in Sydney both in the short term and long term."
