Striking Hospital Med. Laboratory Staff to Face Tougher Actions from Auckland DHBs

Health Boards Auckland.Three metropolitan District Health Boards in Auckland made an announcement stating that it would suspend hospital medical laboratory staff members while there is a continuity seen in the industrial action.

A small proportion of workers of the Auckland, Provinces Manukau and Waitemata DHBs that are partaking in industrial action taking place on the national level, an action taken by New Zealand Medical Laboratory Workers Union in support of the claims in regards to payments, which will be suspended on daily basis.

Ron Dunham, Provinces Manukau’s Chief Operating Officer said that the union’s code of conduct was a continual threat to patient care and the kind of demand made by it was really not viable.

The move has been taken seriously and no one had expected that it would take such a serious turn.

The kind of approach that the union has taken does not match the ones that are taken by other unions representing health staff, since their demands were not made keeping in mind the current scenario of the economic stability.

This industrial action is stressing up the burden of work upon other on-work staff members and those giving their best to offer care to patients, should be thanked in all means.
