Girl Guides demand airbrushed imaged to be labeled

airbrushed1A petition has been signed by 20,000 girl guides to David Cameron wanting his intervention and force magazines to indicate when the pictures of models and other celebrities have been airbrushed.

This has been done with the aim of preventing young girls and women from feeling the pressure to have a perfect figure after seeing images of airbrushed models and celebrities.

“Editors have the right to publish whatever pictures they want, but women and girls also have the right to be comfortable in their own bodies and at the moment they are being denied that”, explained Equalities Minister, Lynne Featherstone.

The petition was the result of a research done by Girlguiding UK, which revealed that 42 percent girls between the ages of 11 to 16 were dieting or cutting down on certain food items to enhance their bodies.

The research even revealed an even graver factor that half of the women between the ages of 16 to 21 are going in for surgical methods to improve their looks.

The Prime Minister was, therefore, petitioned by Girl Guides to help in constructing a generation of girls who are self-confident about the way they look without undertaking damaging and unrealistic methods of improving beauty.
