That the Google Android mobile operating system growing ridiculously is evident, yet again, from the fact that while only a month back Google’s Andy Rubin revealed that 160,000 Android handsets being activated each day, Rubin has recently upped the number to a whopping almost 200,000 Android handset activations per day!
In other words, the most recent statistics from Rubin imply that nearly 1.4 million new Android handsets are being activated each week; which amounts to approximately 6.2 million activations per month!
According to research firm iSuppli, the incredible pace at which Android is expanding, it is being projected that Android will overtake Apple’s iPhone within the next two years. As per the iSuppli estimates, there will be 75 million Android handsets in 2012 - including the popular Droid models from Motorola and HTC – vis-à-vis 62 million iPhones.
Furthermore, the expansion of the Android is set to move beyond the handsets’ arena alone, with the mobile operating system apparently ready to make its presence felt on a wide array of high-tech devices – some commonplace, some weird.
There are reports making rounds about as many as six new Android-based products, other than smartphones, likely to hit the markets in the near future. These products include: the Android TV; the Android Tablet; the Android Home Phone System; the Android Home Command Center; and even an Android-powered washer/dryer; and Android-powered microwave!
