According to the New Zealand Commerce Commission, Telecom's two more backhaul links, relating its competitors to the Telco's local web, will not be regulated from now, as they are found to face robust competition.
Looking at it, the commission today delivered a draft report on its review. The review was made to discern all the working points where Telecom faces competition, while facilitating backhaul services for the unbundled copper local loop.
However, the draft review has proposed to do away with two of the Telecom exchanges from regulation. Also, it seeks to land 25 new links into effect that had not been utilized since the Commerce Commission's recent review.
Backhaul, which is the end link between Telecom's local loop and competitors, basically facilitates access of Telco's local loop network service for its rivals, so that they can provide services to retailers without the need to clone it.
Besides, the latest review is reported to have pondered over various routes, thereby, analyzing whether Telecom actually faces a serious competition issue.
The commission is slated to be delivered with the submissions on the latest review by August 13. However, it has planned to unveil its final review by the end of the month.
