MacMagazine: Apple will likely announce iPod refresh in slightly over a week’s time

IpodGoing by a recent report from Brazilian news site MacMagazine, “a reliable source within Apple” has revealed that Apple will likely announce its annual refresh of the iPod lineup in slightly over week’s time.

Though Apple, which typically refreshes its iPod line and the iTunes software during September, has not officially disclosed any date for the forthcoming refreshes, the MacMagazine source said that the unveil of the next-generation iPods may come between August 14 and August 16. However, since the first two days Saturday and Sunday respectively, the refresh may probably be announced on Monday, August 16.

Already, there are rumors galore making rounds about the next-generation iPod Touch, with the most recent reports mentioning that the refreshed device will boast the addition of a gyroscope, a so-called retina display; and a front- and back-facing camera to facilitate Apple’s FaceTime video chat feature.

Furthermore, two pictures obtained by MacRumors from an iPhone parts supplier reveal that the next iPod Touch will feature a bezel and an LCD panel, with a visible space at the top apparently substantiating the reports about a front-facing camera.

In addition, earlier-this-week rumors posted on iLounge said that a touch-screen display redesign is on the cards for the iPod Shuffle, and a refreshed iPod Nano. iLounge also said that the iPad’s 7-inch display version is being developed, but will likely be released “later this year.”
