Within less than few weeks of government of India’s announcement of $ 35 tablet to be available, One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) project founder Nicholas Negroponte has step forward to lend an helping hand.
As in an open letter to the government of India, he has mentioned his intentions of providing assistance to in the process and development of the tablet through his company’s technology and expertise.
As a matter of fact OLPC had a not so good relationship with India in the past, particularly with Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD).
And this step by the company head is being viewed as its new perspective about collaboration.
As the company whose core job is to compute low cost devices for developing countries, has seen a lot of turmoil over the last one year. The company that has not fared very well because of its innumerable technical and logistical glitch had even reduced its staff last year.
Now the company has changed tracks of its one-size-fits-all approach and has even become less ambitious in terms of its goals. The company is currently working with chip-maker Marvell in order to build a low-cost touchscreen device.
The chief of the company is currently contemplating opportunities to partner with a broader ecosystem of hardware vendors.
