Release date for Verizon's much hyped and anticipated Motorola Droid has been revealed, and the countdown to a formal announcement has now been significantly shortened.
Gearlog's Sascha Segan believes that a proper announcement regarding the Droid's release date will be made on Wednesday, October 28. Also, receipt of a postcard from Verizon Wireless' PR agency has led her to speculate that the exact release date will be Monday, November 09.
Seen by many as Verizon's answer to the iPhone, the Motorola Droid currently enjoys the position of being one of the most anticipated and talked about devices in the gadgets market. Offering a slide-out QWERTY thumb-board which is similar to that of the recently reviewed Motorola CLIQ, the Droid is all set to be the first ever phone to be backed by the Android 2.0 power. The CLIQ, on the other hand, is powered by Android 1.5.
Other features which the Droid boasts of are a 5 megapixel camera which is night shot enabled, and a high resolution (854x480 pixels) screen speculated to be 3.7 inches in size. The phone will support the 600 MHz TI OMAP 3430 processor, similar to the one found in the iPhone.
Whether the Motorola Droid will live up-to the hype or not remains to be seen. And while the price is yet to be announced, the carrier is expected to price the smart-phone at around $200, with a two-year contract.
