Netflix app for Android devices apparently in the offing!

NetflixA Netflix app for Android devices is apparently in the offing, with the company supposedly developing an official app that will enable the users of Android handsets to stream movies and TV shows directly to their devices.

Though there has been no official disclosure so far about a Netflix app for the Android, the company’s recent job listing for an Android Video Playback Expert spills the beans about the Android likely being the next mobile platform to get Netflix streaming. While the job description does not specify any details, it is being speculated that the Android app will allow streaming over both WiFi and 3G. just like the iOS version.

Despite the fact that the Netflix chief executive Reed Hastings said during the first quarter this year that the company was not focusing on streaming to smaller screens, and had no immediate plans to implement even an iPad or iPhone version of the service, a Netflix app was still ready to go right from Day 1 of the iPad’s April launch.

Ever since Netflix’s focus on mobile versions of its streaming service came to the fore; with the company also revealing that it is planning an iPhone version of the app for sometime this summer.

Incidentally, with a substantial percentage of responses to Netflix’s iPhone app announcement comprising requests for an Android version of the app, it is no surprise that the users’ wishes will soon be granted.
