ABC has accused rival Sky News of withholding broadcast of a public forum, which involved Julia Gillard and Tony Abbott, thus, disadvantaging the public. Each leader will be interrogated by a group of 200 voters chosen by a polling Company, in a town hall-style forum at Rooty Hill RSL in western Sydney from 6:00 pm tomorrow.
Sky News and The Daily Telegraph will be withholding the live coverage of the event, until 7:00pm from other television, radio and online agencies. So, the forum will not be broadcasted live on ABC News 24.
During the election campaign, the ABC News Director Kate Torney shared that the public interest has always been put ahead of media politics by the public broadcaster at all times. She further stated that the Australian public will be disadvantaged.
The media outlets' decision is dissimilar to all appearances, which involves the two leaders along with the foremost policy debates at the National Press Club.
All these appearances have been produced and broadcasted by the ABC as a "clean feed" to Sky News and all other networks. But, Sky News Chief Executive Angelos Frangopoulos has conveyed an important message through Twitter.
He stated, “"[We] will make available a feed of its live program, The People's Forum, to the ABC and all other media outlets at no cost for broadcast from 7:00pm (AEST) this Wednesday night”.
