Microsoft launches “PC vs. Mac” marketing offensive on Windows 7 site

MicrosoftAfter having overlooked the existence of Macs for years, Microsoft has finally acknowledged that Macs are a force to reckon with; and has, in its recent “PC vs. Mac” marketing offensive on the Windows 7 Website, tried to take on Apple’s highly successful “Get a Mac” ads.

Clearly showing Microsoft’s offensive streak and trying to cash in on the critical success of Windows 7, the marketing campaign contends that Windows 7 PCs are not only more fun and easier to use than their Mac counterparts, but also boast greater compatibility with other consumer electronics and are notably better at sharing content.

With Apple’s “Get a Mac” ads, which ran for three years, tried to gain from the Windows Vista debacle, particularly from the dissatisfaction of consumers and businesses with Vista, some PC-oriented websites have appreciated Microsoft’s efforts to highlight the limitations – including lack of Blu-ray player, TV tuner, Memory Stick reader or built-in 3G wireless - of the Mac systems.

However, now with the Vista fiasco having become a thing of the past and been replaced by the more superior Windows 7 operating system, Apple has seemingly dumped the “Get a Mac” campaign. While the Mac maker has now rested to a much lower-key, lower-profile Mac/PC comparison section on its site, Microsoft has initiated a “Deciding Between a PC and a Mac” section on the Windows 7 site.
