According to the most recent internal sales numbers released by the gaming-console market leader Nintendo, more than 30 million units of the company’s Wii video game system have been sold in the US.
With Nintendo revealing that the enviable 30-million mark has been touched by the company in 45 months, the November 2006-launched Wii – which set the ball rolling for the era of motion-sensing games - has become the fastest-selling console in video game history.
Talking about the new landmark, Nintendo of America's marketing VP Cammie Dunaway said in a statement: ““More than any other video game system in history, Wii has expanded the world of video games to new audiences. This milestone is another reminder that people want fun games they can play with others -- all at a value-minded price.”
Among the other statistics pertaining to the Wii sales is the VGChartz.com revelation that the Wii console – priced at $199.99 and available black as well as white – has sold over 73 million units globally; as against the 41.7 million units sold for Microsoft’s Xbox 360, and the 36.3 million units sold for the Sony PlayStation 3.
As per market researcher NPD, the best-seller Wii games in the US, in the order of their popularity, are: Wii Play, Mario Kart Wii, Wii Fit, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Wii Sports Resort, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Super Mario Galaxy, Wii Fit Plus, Mario Party 8, and Link’s Crossbow Training.
