Walt Disney, the company's whose results are closely watched for assessing the performance of entertainment industry, has seen a jump of 40 per cent in its profit.
This happened because it was able to produce three hit movies, but most of the contribution came from the Toy Story 3 movie. The other two were Iron Man 2 and Alice in Wonderland.
Merchandise sales too went up and also growth was seen in every aspect of ESPN. The good thing is that it was able to beat the analyst expectations and a fair growth rate was also seen in the theme park segment as well.
Such an increase would have come as a relief sign for the people watching the US economy since rising traffic to theme parks is considered to be an indicator of improving economic conditions. It also goes to show that the consumer spending is also growing.
Top three movies of the company were able to earn $2.5 billion in global ticket sales. Disney's movie unit was able to earn a profit of $123 million as against a loss of $12 million last year. During this time the films were responsible for pulling down the results.
