In June, the New Zealand's hotels experienced stepping up in the visitors, both local and foreign. The figure rose to 7% as compared to last year.
The hotels in the region were 9% more occupied by domestic guests this June, than last year and international guest nights increased 4%. The total number of visitors rose to 1.7 million from June 2009 and half of them were foreigners, as revealed by Statistics New Zealand.
The largest upswing in the visitors was enjoyed by the Holiday parks, which mounted up to 13% this month, a significant high from last month's figure, but the overall stay during the nights was less, compared to hotels.
In the motels, the number of visitors surged 5% to 28,000 and that of backpackers increased 1% to 3000.
The regions that attracted most of the visitors are the Bay of Plenty, Otago, and Auckland, while the decline in the guests was experienced by West Coast, Nelson, Marlborough and Tasman.
SNZ stated that the uptrend has been followed since 2008, but the turnover in the recreational sector remained weak during past few months.
It said, "The recent volatility should be treated with caution until more data was available".
