The skeptical Sydney commuters have been promised a main rail line directly, which will directly link suburbs in the west and north, by Prime Minister Julia Gillard, during the election campaign to NSW voters. Ms. Gillard, along with NSW Premier Kristina Keneally, announced a $2.6 billion plan to Parramatta to Epping rail link, which was previously discarded.
The Prime Minister was poured with questions pertaining to the project. The questions were quite inevitable, for instance, whether the project would actually proceed. Everyone is familiar with the fact that NSW is not very good at delivering transport projects. The announcement is very crucial as far as the Government victory at the federal poll on August 21, is concerned.
The Parramatta to Epping rail link was scrapped by the Government in 2003. It had promised to build it in 1998. Ms. Gillard was asked by the people that whether the project would see the light of day, to which she replied that, she can guarantee that it will materialize.
She said that they will be entering into an intergovernmental agreement to deliver this project. The agreement will be signed by both of them.
She said, "We will ensure that our experts at Infrastructure Australia work with the NSW government on the planning and delivery of the project".
