A rise of 1.6% was witnessed in the food prices, which also revealed that there has been an increase in dairy prices as well as vegetable prices. Statistics New Zealand shared today that there was a 8.7% rise in July from June owing to a seasonal increase in vegetable prices.
Lettuce prices witnessed a rise of 44.9% and tomato prices saw a lift of 13.9%, which contribute to the overall rise in food prices. There was a rise of 1.2% in the grocery food prices, as fresh milk contributing 5.9% rise and yoghurt prices increased 7%. In July, the meat, poultry, and fish subgroup boosted 0.5% and there was a surge of 0.3% in restaurant meals and ready-to-eat food subgroup.
The prices of non-alcoholic beverage dropped 1.1%. Butter prices rose 27.2% on the year and have dipped 5.3% from a peak in the month of May.
SNZ further elaborated that three successive falls, in yearly food prices had not happened since the year 2000. The fruit and vegetable prices dropped 4.3%, in the year to July 2010.
The overall rise in the month of July was 1.6% and it was 1.3% in June. Prior to that, in the month of May the drop was 0.7%.
