The situation has started improving for Qantas Airways Ltd., which expressed that the air traffic has began picking up, especially with the air travelling being increased by the business people. This a good sign for the improving earnings and increasing the demand for international travel.
Alan Joyce, the Chief Executive of Qantas Airways Ltd. was questioned about the launch of a new low-cost carrier, to be developed jointly by Tiger Airways and Thai Airways, which can harm the position of the subsidiary Jetstar in Asia.
Responding to the competitor's approach, Mr. Joyce stated that the move by the rivals is nothing, as they are just trying to play catch up.
He said, "In revenue terms Jetstar is the leading low cost carrier in the Asia-pacific region, it's got a double digit growth for the last four years, 20 per cent growth this year. So everybody else is playing catch up".
As revealed by Tiger and Thai Airways last week, Thai Tiger Airways would fly in the first three months of 2011 and it would be located outside the boundaries of Bangkok.
Mr. Joyce added that Jetstar should add more Chinese destinations, as it is the strongest market for the Company. Also, other airways are just imitating Jetstar's network by trying their hand in different markets. But, Jetstar provides best of the services and outshine in low cost carrier space and further investments will provide a boost to the Company.
