Wool Growers Get No Premium for Unmulesed Wool

Wool-GrowersThere is an intense situation for the wool growers in Australia, as they are not paid the premium for the wool from the unmulesed sheep.

As expressed by the WoolProducers based in Australia, there is less production of unmulesed wool to cater to the wider market, thus, no premium price is being given to them.

Greg Weller, Executive Director of WoolProducers stated that the customers are shifting to South Africa and New Zealand for their wool demands.

He said, "What we're hearing is that a lot of the demand that is coming out is being supplied by South Africa and New Zealand, so at this stage they're picking up the level of slack”.

Adding to this, he told that they do not have much capacity to produce wool for the masses.

There was no advancement in the prices of wool, though the NZ Dollar remained strong.

84% of the 9200 bales of wool were sold at a joint auction of North and South Island wool, carried out in Christchurch. Last Thursday, NZ Dollar gained 0.87% against the currencies of wool trading countries.

New Zealand Wool Services International Ltd. told that the fluctuations in the prices signal that less volumes of wool are being produced. It also added that there was a mild increase between 1% and 3%, experienced by prices for mid-micron fleece, while crossbred wools ascended between 1% and 2.5%.
