ASUS gears up for Eee Pad launch in March

ASUS gears up for Eee Pad launch in MarchMuch after Olive unveiled its "3G Tablet" to make a dent into Apple's iPad dominance in the market, now it's the turn of Asustek Computer to launch its first tablet device. This new offering from the company will be on Google's Android mobile operating system which will be rolled out in March.

Supposedly the new product will be third in the Eee Pad family and is expected to cost less than US$399.

The company has currently engaged a team of around 800 software engineers to work on its Android based smarthphone division. And it is expected that s smaller chunk of this team will be shifted to the development of tablet product division.

The device from the ASUS will be named as Eee Pad EP121 and will have Microsoft's Windows 7 Home Premium operating system and an Intel Core 2 Duo processor inside.

After its first launch the company will concurrently roll out a second Eee Pad in January. This second tablet will have a 10-inch touch screen that does not include a docking station and is expected to fall in the price bracket of S$399 and US$499.

Although will it be able to make or break Apple position in the market, is still a question to ponder.
