Substantiating the earlier speculations that the Windows Phone 7 platform would integrate with Microsoft’s Xbox Live to include a games hub and offer a wide array of games using Microsoft's XNA game development framework, Microsoft recently announced, at the Gamescom 2010 conference, the games that would initially ship for the platform either at its launch or shortly afterwards.
The first wave of games for the Windows Phone 7 will include a mix fifty free and paid titles, aimed both at hardcore gamers as well as casual ones. Among the games – both first- and third-party games - announced by Microsoft are some new takes on the current Xbox game franchises; ports of already popular games, like UNO and Bejeweled; and a range of new casual card and board games branded “Game Chest.”
Since it has already been reported that these games, all of which will be required to support touch inputs, will integrate with Xbox Live, they will offer achievements and gamer score to reward players.
In addition, all the paid games for the Windows Phone 7 will comprise free demo modes. For buying these games, users will have to use the billing options – either credit card or carrier billing via Marketplace - of the Windows Phone, instead of the Microsoft Points used for the Xbox Live Marketplace.
All the game titles for the Windows Phone 7 will be exclusive to the platform, and Microsoft’s tie-ins with well-known franchises like Halo will definitely appeal to hardcore gamers.
