Rank Group to Borrow $5 Billion to Pay for Its Acquisition of PactivIn order to disburse for its purchase of Pactiv Corp., Rank Group Ltd. will scrounge as much as $5 billion. Credit Suisse Group AG, HSBC Holdings Plc. and Australia & New Zealand Banking Group Ltd. have decided to lend this amount, the manufacturer of Hefty trash bags, Pactiv said in a regulatory filing today.

It is reported that Rank Group would fund 83% of the $6 billion acquisition with the borrowed amount, if the banks give the entire amount.

Graeme Hart, the wealthiest man of New Zealand, is the owner of Rank Group Ltd. This is said to be the largest takeover for the Company. Hart made a big fortune by investing in businesses varying from lumber to dairy. He was able to create a large-scale packaging empire by acquiring a lot of companies.

Today, in a report, Moody’s Investors Service said that this acquisition will place Pactiv into Rank Group’s Chicago-based division, Reynolds Group Holdings Ltd. This unit is reported to have “considerably weaker credit metrics” and is rated “significantly” poorer.

Moody has rated the Company B2, which is five levels less than the investment grade.

Meanwhile, a spokeswoman for Reynolds in Switzerland, Petra Beck was not available for comment after normal working hours.
