According to a 1Up.com report, a Tuesday announcement by Google game developer advocate Mark DeLoura and Google Chrome developer advocate Michael Mahemoff reveled that Google’s Chrome Web Store will debut in October.
The key focus of Google’s online app store will be on supplying users with a wide array of online/browser-based games, as well as a community, so that games can be reviewed, rated, and bookmarked by the users.
While announcing about the scheduled launch at the ongoing Game Developer Conference in Europe (GDC Europe) – the conference is being held in Germany this year -, DeLoura and Mahemoff used screenshots of individual game pages to show the audience what Google’s Chrome Web Store will look like.
In addition, DeLoura and Mahemoff also emphasized that publishing of content for Google’s online app store will be a fairly easy; and that there will no approval process for content posting.
The most important part of the announcement by DeLoura and Mahemoff was that Google have a near-negligible share in the revenue generated by the publishers of the content. While most of the other content publishers keep a whopping 70 percent share in profit, Google will merely seek a 5 percent processing fee from the publishers.
Furthermore, though Google will allow the publishing of free games, it won’t allow games with in-game purchases – thereby implying that all payments would be required up-front, and transactions will be made using Google Checkout.
