UK Scientists: Kidney Transplanted from Heart Attack Victims Could Save Many Lives

Kidney Transplanted from Heart Attack Victims Could Save Many LivesOn Thursday, scientists from Britain said that kidneys can be transplanted from the victims of cardiac arrest or the ones who have given in due to heart attack, since it works as good as a kidney that is transplanted from a brain-dead patient's body, and on top of this, the source of getting a donor would be brightened for anyone seeking to get an organ transplanted.

The team of researchers informed that the long observed belief that kidneys from victims who died due to heart attack would not work properly has yet not been established with any proof, therefore, it would be wise to treat them equal to the kidneys donated by brain-dead victims.

Andrew Bradley of Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge, who also played the leader of the study, said that the dearth of donor organs is a challenge faced by the international transplant community.

In the findings, researchers have been able to find that cardiac arrest donors are really vital and more often than not are overlooked as source of good quality donor kidneys.

Almost 80,000 individuals in the United States of America and 7,000 people in Britain are at present waiting for a probable kidney donor so that they can undergo a transplant.
