The already present aspect of posting what is one's find; Facebook has now added the feature whereby one can also post one's location. The 'what's on your mind?' will now be accompanied with 'where are you?'
This feature enables users of Facebook to carry their cellphones into parks, live concerts etc. and announce their location to their friends. This feature, called Facebook Places, has spread tremendously with the advent of smartphones featured with GPS etc.
The checks-in have been kept optional which will share one's whereabouts only when one opts for it and one will also have the option not to let it accessible to the public at large.
This feature has been launched keeping in mind the willingness of almost every person to have control over his/her whereabouts knowledge. Along with this feature another option, called 'Here Now', has also been launched.
With the help of this option one can have access to the information regarding the others, who might not be on your friend list but are present in the same location as one checks-in. Once a person checks-in, a pop up window appears which shows his/her location which is visible to friends and others present in the same place.
