The biggest social networking platform is experimenting on the latest location based features, a feature akin to that of Twitter.
Facebook has unveiled this latest 'Places' location feature as a service devised for iPhone app. This is positioned as Places tab right in the center of the app.
Places product manager for Facebook, Michael Eyal Sharon, said, "Starting today, you can immediately tell people about that favorite spot with Facebook Places."
The feature however, currently is available only in US and the three major offerings it proffers is; letting one know where you are, ability to locate your friend's location and tag nearby friends and discover new places in the vicinity.
Abilities such as easy checking in at nearby bars, restaurants, coffee shops and several places helps keep one updated about the surroundings.
It is said that this type of service draws similarities from location based services such as Foursquare, Gowalla and Yelp. One can also opt not to tag themselves with the 'Not Now' option.
