Tech blog Engadget appears to be getting notably better at its knack of getting its hands on prototype/unreleased handset – this time round, the blog has cited an unnamed ‘inside’ source to disclose that T-Mobile is ‘soon’ unveiling the T-Mobile G2, the successor to the October 2008-released T-Mobile G1.
While the G1 was the pioneer in the field of the presently-mushrooming Android-based handsets’ arena, the G2 comes at a time when there are a multitude of smartphones running the Android OS, each trying to bring a distinct edge over the others.
Incidentally, contrary to the earlier reports, the G2 is not the same handset – the HTC Glacier – the images of which were leaked by a T-Mobile employee earlier this month.
Going by the images that the Engadget source has forwarded to the tech blog, the T-Mobile G2, though fairly similar to the HTC device leaked earlier, has some notable cosmetic differences including multi-hued keys.
As per the Engadget source, the forthcoming T-Mobile G2 will feature very simple hardware, making the device more like the HTC Desire, with the exception of a slide-out QWERTY keyboard. In addition, the G2 will likely feature the standard 3.7-inch touch screen using HTC’s SuperLCD technology; 1 GHz Snapdragon processor; and a 5-megapixel camera.
Boasting a few subtle improvements over the myTouch 3G Slide, the G2 will chiefly meet the requirements of those T-Mobile subscribers who are looking for a physical-keyboard equipped Android handset.
